Winnipeg Mental Health Discussion Panel
Literature suggests that measurement-based care improves mental health outcomes, increasing patient engagement and collaboration between providers and patients. Using validated measures would help identify “treatment resistance” and provide second and third level treatments for these long-suffering individuals.
Throughout this panel discussion, experts will discuss the evidence, pros, cons, and barriers to the widespread use of measurement-based care in mental health and addictions.
Discussion highlights will include:
- Review of latest literature of MBC in MH and addictions.
- Clinician and patient review of measurement and next steps on decision making including adding or changing medication, modifying psychotherapeutic approach, and lifestyle modification.
- Reluctance in using measurement-based care and how this is anti-intuitive as most clinical practice guidelines have important inflection point that are defined by clinical endpoints.
- Understanding barriers and to implementation of MBC and approaches to overcoming these challenges.
- How a systemic and routine use of validated measures will enhance decision-making regarding treatment.
- Better understanding of a personalized approach in the management of pain conditions, insomnia, PTSD and depression.
Learning objectives:
- Understand the potential benefits of measurement-based care (MBC) in mental health and addictions.
- Describe the commonly encountered barriers to the implementation of MBC and ways to overcome them.
- Explain how measurement-based care can efficiently and effectively guide the delivery of evidence-based care using cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT I) and chronic pain as examples.
